Roberto Burle Marx transformed the terrain of his estate into a garden-laboratory and a beautiful park at the west end of Barra da Tijuca. Urbanization of this area started in the 1970’s. Recently, this district gained many infrastructural improvements and cultural projects as the main venue of the Olympics was situated here.
