#11 Brutalism and the Paulista School [São Paulo]
João Batista Vilanova Artigas was one of the main exponents of the Escola Paulista and brutalist architecture of São Paulo. One of the most prominent scholars of this movement is Paulo Mendes da Rocha. We will discuss one of da Rocha's major projects, the Brazilian Museum for Sculpture MUBE, and how Artigas influenced it, as well as the radicalization of the construction as a so-called 'plastic language’.
